Why Big Box Gyms Aren't for Everyone (and Where to Find a Better Alternative)
Fitness - October 15, 2024
Chances are you don’t like the idea of a big, open gym with 100 people wandering around. Those clients look like they know what they are doing. They know their exercises, the weights they use, and (mostly) the correct technique. You don’t want to train next to someone who studies this stuff.
You want to feel safe and given attention only by an understanding professional. One who will push you to gradually achieve your goals and won’t be a drill instructor, making you impossibly sore after each session.
The box gym isn’t for you: did you know there are gyms with smaller, more personal environments that can help you feel comfortable getting started on your health and fitness journey?
A Friendly Atmosphere
Remember “Cheers,” where everybody knows your name? In a smaller atmosphere, with like-minded people and a similar ability level, this can be really refreshing. No grunting and slamming weights down, or asking to share your equipment. Just friendly people who will give you a wave and let you enjoy your space with your trainer.
Speaking of trainers, we only hire the friendliest, most knowledgeable staff. In personal training, the joke is that trainers are often half trainer, half therapist. If you’d like, tell us about your day while we make sure you exercise safely and effectively. Most often, if you don’t have to think about your workout while doing it, you’ll be happy!
Your Own Space
At Evolve, we separate our space into zones (an idea adopted from the days of Covid) to give you a more private experience. Our clients and staff thought the zones worked so well that we didn’t make a change when things got back to normal.
Other clients and trainers aren’t on top of you. They don’t take your equipment or sweat on your bench. It’s just you and your trainer working through your training session. Based on your style of training and exercise prescription at the moment, your trainer will select a zone for you that has all the equipment you need. It’s the fastest way to get results!
Personal Training Only
If you don’t love the idea of working out within a crowd of people, a gym with only personal training really limits the population of the gym.
We only have 6 zones in the gym for people to train, so, along with trainers, there are never more than 12 people in the whole place before 4:00pm.
What a relief! Less eyeballs often equals more comfort for people who are new to training. And for the majority of our clients when they start, this can be a game changer for getting over that hump and finally getting started with a plan to lose weight, get stronger, become healthier, or just look and feel better.
Don't Let Anything Stand In Your Way
“I’m just not sure where to start. I’m not sure I can do this.” I hear this so often from the people who need a personal trainer the most. It’s why our mission is to make your life better through training.
“Gym” is often thought of as a 4 letter word. But gyms don’t have to be intimidating. They can be comfortable and fun: that place you go to unwind and make your day a little better.
In the right atmosphere, anything is possible. So whether you are in your 40s and looking to take your fitness back, or a grandparent just trying to learn how to exercise for the first time, there is a place for you at Evolve.
The first session is complimentary, so contact us and give training a try! Tell us about your goals and history and we’ll match you with a trainer who you will love and will get you the results you’re looking for. We’ll see you soon!
